Changing DOMAIN_NAME_X into DOMAIN_NAME_Y

Hello

I would like to know how changing the website's domain is going to affect the website's SEO in this particular case:

There is a website with current domain name DOMAIN_NAME_X

I want to change it into DOMAIN_NAME_Y

Most links in the internet pointing to this website are pointing directly to DOMAIN_NAME_X. So the question is, would affect much my SEO rank if I just move the website under DOMAIN_NAME_Y and I do permanent redirects 301 from DOMAIN_NAME_X to DOMAIN_NAME_Y?



How long would it take to see the same SEO with DOMAIN_NAME_Y as with current DOMAIN_NAME_X?
