Hosting in different Country

Postby rsalan » Sun Sep 06, 2009 8:28 pm

If I develop a site for the US market, will I have SEO issues if the site is hosted on a UK server?

My gut says that SEs might tag the IP address as UK based and the performance in the US engines would suffer.

you are correct

from my experience, the seo's know what IP blocks are assigned to each countries and skew the search results accordingly.

If you market is in the US, you should have your site hosted in the US.

but..if your target is in the UK, you should host your site in the UK

What about a company with operations in a number of countries? Would it be better to go with a single .com site - or create (and pay for) a plethora of .fr, .de, .com.uk, .eu... sites? The costs involved with trying to effectively promote a score of sites adds up pretty quickly. Anyone with some good input on this?
