I think it depends on what your site is about. You could probably advertise to your family and friends. Ask them to let people know. Perhaps go to forums that have the same genre as your site and post the URL there.

Most "new and creative ideas" will get you banned or decrease your page ranking. What you need to do is get as much content on your site as possible, in the form of text, with as many key words as possible throughout the text, reciprocal links from other sites of similar content, descriptive and unique page titles on every page, and time. Sites require time to move up the rankings in any search engine. But the links is the big one. If you have a lot of links coming in to your site then the search engines assume that you are a site full of worthy content. The problem is link farms where you can get a link for free or little money. Since they don't have anything to do with the content of your site they will assume that you're trying blacklisted methods of acquiring links.

The best thing to do is write an article, and in it link to other sites, and go ask other site owners if they will link to you in exchange for linking to them, just make sure it's the same type of site.

You are right when you say that you need to start by submitting your site to all the major search engines as well as to “niche” related directories.

Then, a very productive strategy is to use article marketing. Write articles related to your site’s theme, submit them to article directories and be sure to include a link in the article as well as in the author resource box back to your site.

You can join forums related to you site’s theme, answer blog questions, answer Yahoo Questions, write a Wiki How, submit a site review or product review on something you sell on your site to Google base, send out press release, and on and on.

I have created a program to do that, but, when i want to Compile it, suddenly my Programming Language Program Crashed, and i didn't save it yet. So, i just tell you how it actually works...

Pagerank and traffic will be added everytime people opened your website. So, the program that i made is, a bot, which will keep visiting your website for every about 5 seconds. By doing that, you will get about 720 Traffic added to your website.

hey, Ronnie here... maybe my successful personal journey can give you some insight

i've been running a small blog now for a little 6 months, and after reading alot on some of the different forums out there i started trying to monetize my blog with adsense and began looking to find different easy ways to send lots of new traffic to my site. So far since i started ive just been dropping alot of links in comments i post on others blogs.. I began doing social bookmarking which is where most of my traffic comes from using the automated software from http://www.bmdemon.pcti-system.com .. which most successful bloggers I know use to drive lots of traffic.

I also began writing articles on the topics which my blog covers and began submitting them to the major article directories(ezinearticles/amazines.com etc).. Also submitting my blog to the RSS feeds(feedage/feedfury.com).. and lastly sending out free press releases(free-press-release.com/prlog .com) ... As a result doing these different things to drive traffic.. my blog as of now gets an average of over 1,000 visitors a day! and I reached this point after only a short period of time.
