My father died 3 weeks ago from cancer. He was only 45, way too young. I decided I wanted to write a eulogy for him and share it at his memorial, assuming other people would be doing the same thing. Upon making the announcement that I had just finished my eulogy, my strict Catholic Aunt told me that eulogies are strictly prohibited at Catholic masses. I Google'd "why" they are prohibited and found a website that said, "The funeral liturgy is a celebration of salvation and mercy, of grace and eternal life. It is not meant to be a commemoration (much less a canonization) of the person who has died. Extended remembering of the deceased often results in forgetting the Lord."
