How do I make Google my search engine, Not home Page or Tool

I don't want it as my Home Page or as a separate bar, I use too be able to just type words into the adress bar and it would take me to the correct site now it just takes me to ask.com search results. Someone's asked this question but it was never answered correctly and was over 2 years ago.help anyone?

I think you must got to the preferences or options for tools in your browser so that you can change your home page as well as your search engine.
