How to promote affiliate links ?

i am a new affiliate marketer.please tell me the way to promote affiliate links. I heard that If you have a website or a blog, you can use it to send traffic to your affiliate links. put up a banner of the product trying to promote on your site.... you can also use PPC to send traffic to your affiliate links… All this sounds great, but I will need guidance n where and how to put up my banners and how to use ppc.
