Keyword Variations !

Postby Mech » Mon Sep 14, 2009 3:03 pm

I am a junior web designer for a marketing company, and my superiors are still in the keyword meta tags world of SEO and have a hard time understanding that SEO is so much more than that.

Often we have clients come to us with keywords that are just variations of the same word. For example racehorse trainer, racehorse trainers, race horse trainer, race horse trainers.

From what I have learnt, keywords should be precise and to the point. If they are even read at all. What my question is, will it hurt your website ranking if you have the example above? If so what can I explain to my boss to he explains to clients that it is not a good idea. At the moment I don't have a very strong argument as to why it probably won't help.

It wont help making similar variations. It is pretty much the same, and you must focus on different ones. Sometimes, it can be wise to target variations on different pages, but you need to think carefully about why, it might be unwise to create a multitude of pages to target each of these variations when a single page could target each effectively.

For example,
Spammy Version
TITLE: Cheap Electric Motors for Sale, Buy Electric motors

Good Version
TITLE: Buy Electric motors at Mycompany - 1000s of (In Stock) Electric motors for Sale
