Local seo for google

Hi

Ive just set up a local pest control company and trying to do my own seo now i want to be found for most towns and cities in my area now whats the best way to do this

my idea was to creat a sub domain town.mainwebsite.co.uk

for each town i want to rank for then create a basic website with new content and the promote that site for that keyword


Is this the best way and what would you do if there are about 60 towns and cities which i would love to rank high for my keywords?
